using scrapbook paper for home decor items

I had some spaces on my bookshelves that needed filling up...and as I was staring at them thinking of ideas, I remembered the round gift box that was stored in my closet. I got it for Christmas one year...I think bath and body products were in it, not sure...but I didn't want to throw the box away because it was good-sized...11 inches in diameter...and I could definitely use it for something!

So as I'm thinking about the colors of the room...which are dark, rich browns...I'm also thinking of scrapbook papers I have that will blend in with the color scheme. After I picked out the papers and found coordinating ribbon, it was time to create!

Here is what the box looked like BEFORE:

Here is the box AFTER:

Supplies used:

KaiserCraft papers-Elegance/Victoria and Elegance/Elizabeth
KaiserCraft self-adhesive pearl
5/8" dark brown satin ribbon
Chalk ink-chestnut roan
adhesives-Tombow Mono Multi and Terrifically Tacky Tape
corner rounder

Other: diecut circle and flower

I created a "buckle" to finish off the box: I cut out a rectangle using the back side of the Elizabeth paper and rounded the corners. I used my Cricut to cut out a small circle (on brown cardstock) and a small flower (using the back side of the Victoria paper). I used chalk ink on the edges of the three cutouts...then layered them on each other and added a pearl to the center. I also lifted/bent the flower petals up to give it a little dimension.

Here is the altered gift box on my bookshelf!
